Hey, I’m Evan, and I have a deep professional background in journalism, digital media, content creation and website management. Currently, I’m the executive editor of American Rifleman, the flagship Official Journal of the National Rifle Association. Previously, I worked on the staff of Shooting Illustrated, the NRA’s newest Official Journal. I started my career in the firearm media industry at Outdoor Sportsman Group, where I ran the five websites in the network associated with Guns & Ammo, Firearms News, Shooting Times, Handguns and RifleShooter.
Having grown up in rural Michigan, I spent much of my childhood exploring the woods and eventually went to school at Hillsdale College, where I served on the staff of the school newspaper, the Hillsdale Collegian, and graduated in 2015 with degrees in history and journalism. During my college years, I worked at the Toledo Free Press, where I wrote breaking stories on the business, crime and cultural beats. I also spent a summer in Washington, D.C., working at The Weekly Standard, where I curated a selection of the magazine’s greatest articles for eventual publication.
I’ve had a passion for firearms, history and the outdoors from an early age. When I’m not tinkering with antique small arms, you’ll find me reading a book or exploring a Civil War battlefield somewhere.
